During April Vacation Week, the Society held an Artist Challenge!
where students competed for a gift basket of items from the Society’s
store and a gift card to Michael’s Crafts. Students were challenged to
create a piece of artwork out of materials they would normally throw
away. The winner
was selected by members of the staff and Board of Directors member, Bill
Harris. The winner was Julia Vassallo! Julia liked putting this
project together because it was fun and she
got to use her
imagination. “Sometimes you have things that can’t be recycled so I
like to do
something with it and I really like art,” said Julia. Some of the items
she used were from her house, but she also found things from
freecycle.com, a
non-profit organization which allows members to exchange materials and
kept them out of landfills. Congratulations to Julia! |
