What bridges will you build?
The
Windsor Historical Society is proud to host the
Windsor High School’s
Pre-Advanced Placement Studio Art students’
exhibition
Building Bridges.
In October and November of 2011, the students toured
Lon Pelton’s workshop and learned about his sources
for inspiration and his creative process. They
visited the Windsor Art Center and noted how
Hartford-artist Jerry Barry uses scale and
composition to draw viewers into his paintings. The
students chatted with Len Hellerman about the
importance of composition, as well as the business
of being an artist. The group toured the Historic
District and zoomed in on its diverse architectural
details. The class also spent time sketching two
juxtaposing bridges – the 1869 stone railroad bridge
and the 1990 Palisado Avenue bridge – that cross the
Farmington River and connect the Historic District
to the rest of Windsor. Drawing inspiration from
architectural elements, the Farmington River
bridges, and other artists, these high school
juniors have crafted artworks that bridge the divide
between historic and modern, established and
contemporary, yesterday and today.
