It records the transactions of a farmer and his customers, with debits on the left and credits on the right. Patrons often used Griswold's chais[e] and sleigh to go to area towns including Suffield, Granby and Hartford. In addition, Griswold sold liquor and vegetables and loaned money as well. The first page of the book has a family record, listing births and deaths. Abiel Griswold, Esq. born 7/14/1755, married Huldah Griswold born 11/15/1755 and they had eight children. Abiel died 12/26/1813 and Huldah died 8/16/1811. An important transaction occurred on page 48 between Abiel Griswold and Moses Wing, the clockmaker. Wing paid his debt , in part, with an eight-day clock worth $16. The book contains entries about sawing and selling lumber. The middle is blank and the end has newspaper articles pasted in about inventions, homemade cures, recipes, and various articles of interest. 2001.010.002 Abiel Griswold and Origen Griswold account book Griswold, Abiel 1789 1849 This account book was used by both Abiel Griswold and his son Origen (who started using it on March 10, 1814). It records the transactions of a farmer and his customers, with debits on the left and credits on the right. Patrons often used Griswold's chais[e] and sleigh to go to area towns including Suffield, Granby and Hartford. In addition, Griswold sold liquor and vegetables and loaned money as well. The first page of the book has a family record, listing births and deaths. Abiel Griswold, Esq. born 7/14/1755, married Huldah Griswold born 11/15/1755 and they had eight children. Abiel died 12/26/1813 and Huldah died 8/16/1811. An important transaction occurred on page 48 between Abiel Griswold and Moses Wing, the clockmaker. Wing paid his debt , in part, with an eight-day clock worth $16.
