299 Palisado Avenue was Joseph Rainey’s summer home although his family lived year-round here. Joseph Rainey was elected the first black member of the United States House of Representatives in 1870, representing South Carolina. Rainey focused on legislation to support the rights of Southern blacks, efforts which eventually proved unsuccessful. The Raineys purchased their Windsor home in 1874, attracted by educational opportunities for their children. Jester Tony Morgan will play Joseph Rainey.
