Lunch and Learn:
From Hula Hoops to High Fashion: G. Fox & Co in the
1950’s
April 19, Noon
– 1 PM
or
April 28 at 7 PM
Take
your pick of two sessions and join us either on
Tuesday, April 19th at noon or
Thursday April 28th at 7:00 p.m. when
Elizabeth Abbe,
Director of Public Outreach at the Connecticut
Historical Society will lead you down memory lane with a
look at our region’s favorite department store.
She will take you back, floor by floor, to the
days when G. Fox was the largest privately owned
department store in the U.S. Elizabeth will also give
you some insight into the woman who made every shopping
experience a joy -- Beatrice Fox Auerbach. Bring your
memories along with your favorite purchases from G. Fox.
We’ll have some tables for display of G. Fox treasures
and a microphone to pass around so you can share a
favorite G. Fox story.
The Connecticut Historical Society preserves a wonderful
collection of scrapbooks, photographs, department store
advertising and packaging materials, as well as clothing and
household goods sold at G. Fox. Their archives also house
Auerbach family records, and Elizabeth Abbe will draw from
all of these resources in her presentation. So take a trip
down memory lane with us and revisit G. Fox, where the
customer was always right! If attending the noon
session, please feel free to bring a bag lunch. We will
supply beverages and dessert at both programs. The reason
for scheduling two sessions is that we inadvertently
scheduled the lunchtime session for Passover -- we are
sorry!
Cost for the program is $6
for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and $4 for Windsor
Historical Society members. Additional parking is available
at the Windsor Discovery Center, First Church, and around
Palisado Green. Call (860) 688-3813 for directions to the
Society.
