Windsor’s flowing
rivers, pastoral landscapes, bustling neighborhoods, private homes, and
personal possessions have always sparked artistic creativity. The
Windsor Historical Society’s new exhibition, Windsor Artists, Then
and Now, brings together work from four centuries of Windsor
artists. Opening September 9, 2006, the exhibition combines artwork
from the Society’s historic collections with contributions from over
twenty contemporary artists. Compare historic and modern works to learn
how artistic techniques changed over time. Uncover clues to Windsor’s
history hidden in the artwork. Explore the artists’ solitary labors
within their shared community.
Windsor Artists:
Then and Now
features fine and decorative art, including a clock from 18th
century clockmaker Moses Wing, prints from 19th century painters Albert
Fitch Bellows and Osbert Loomis, paintings from 19th century
artists Fanny Loomis Bissell and Ruell Compton Tuttle, and images from
early 20th century photographer W. S. Leek. The show also
exhibits works by contemporary painters Daniel Mack, Jan Dagenhart,
Betty Rice, Cathy Doocy and Barbara Van Winkelen, sculptor Lon Pelton, photographers
Wayne Dombkowski and Leonard Hellerman, woodworker Jack Alberti and many
others. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience Windsor’s
artistic heritage!
