Creative projects will delight kids and their
parents too!
Wondering how to entertain your children over winter
vacation? Spend your mornings at the Windsor
Historical Society, where kids will find an array of
engaging art projects to spark their creativity.
Activities for children ages 5 to 10 will run
continually from 10 am-1pm starting Monday, February
19 through Friday, February 23, with new projects
offered daily. A parent or
guardian must accompany their children, and
participants are encouraged to wear clothing
suitable for messy play. Costs are
$5 adults, $4 seniors, $3 children, $2 for members,
and $10 per family.
The Society will offer a range of fun arts and
crafts projects that change from day to day. On
Monday, kids will construct animal sculptures from
pipe cleaners, design decorative frames for their
original artwork, and create colorful window
decorations from tissue paper. On Tuesday, they
will construct greeting cards to mail to family and
friends, paint paper fans, and sculpt with play
dough. On Wednesday, children will explore
pointillism (painting using dots of color), build
3-D frames, and design paper quilts, while on
Thursday they will decorate masks, experiment with
stencils, and design collages from recycled
materials. On Friday, kids will design colorful
prints using ordinary vegetables, make paper wall
hangings, and experiment with black and white
images. A variety of mixed media materials will be
available each day for independent creativity, and
children can enjoy a variety of activities at the
Society’s Hands-On-History Learning Center,
including playing dress-up in reproduction colonial
clothing.
The winter vacation activities are offered in
conjunction with the Society’s exhibition,
Windsor Artists: Then and Now. This exhibition
features fine and decorative artwork made by Windsor
artists over the past 400 years, and is sponsored by
an anonymous donor, Rabbett Insurance, the Town of
Windsor through its Arts and Culture granting
program, and Windsor Federal Savings. Visitors are
also invited to tour the Society’s permanent gallery
to learn about Windsor’s rich history.
